Interfaith community candlelight vigil for Haiti, February 15.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—There will be a interfaith community candlelight vigil for the victims and survivors of the Haitian earthquake in the Vassar College Chapel, sponsored by the Dutchess County InterFaith Council along with the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life at Vassar College, at a date and time to be announced. (This event was originally scheduled for 10 February, but was postponed due to the storm.)
Commemorating the one month anniversary of the earthquake that struck Haiti, the interfaith community will offer a candlelight vigil followed by shared multi-faith prayers, silent meditation, song, and fellowship. Participants will include representatives from the Hindu Samaj and the Mid-Hudson Islamic Association / Masjid Al-Noor of Wappingers Falls; Poughkeepsie’s Temple Beth-El and St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church; Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church; various representatives from Vassar College; as well as a visiting Haitian priest -- silent meditation, song, and fellowship.
The service will close with a musical offering, performed by Vassar alumnus and Bridge Music composer Joseph Bertolozzi ’81, on the Chapel organ.
